Ali is a traditional fisherman, deeply linked to the sea and his old friend Azam. But Azam left the village many years ago and his returns are unpredictable, to the point where everyone but Ali suspects he may be a sea spirit. Told in two separate, interwoven stories -- the time past when Azam was forced to suddenly leave town and the time present when he returns to his friend -- this is the hauntingly beautiful new film by one of the leaders of the new generation of Malaysian filmmakers, whose vision fuses the 'First' and 'Third' world cultures of modern Malaysia.
