The music snob is easily identified by the air of smugness and the supercilious tones used when discussing bands you’ve never heard of and concerts you don’t know about -- but is there such a thing as a theater snob? A person who takes an inordinate amount of pride in knowing obscure plays and discussing performances no one else has ever witnessed? Perhaps this is a role you could originate; if so, the A.E. Hotchner Playwriting Festival is your springboard to superiority. Three new plays, written by Washington University students during the course of the annual playwriting workshop, debut in staged readings over the course of two nights. Intelligent Life by Lauren Dusek and Yelling Man by Lee Osorio premiere at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-935-5858 or www.artsci.wustl.edu/~pad); Noga Landau’s Chosen is performed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26. Admission is free both nights -- oh, how you’ll brag about that when you recount these evenings at some future date.
