Active Waiting

All the procrastinators and dilly-dalliers are clogging the malls and most of the major surface roads today, but things will be pretty quiet at the Saint Louis Zoo in Forest Park (314-781-0900 or www.stlzoo.org). Cold-weather animals such as bears and, um, restless third-graders may be a little more active than usual, so maybe you should take the latter out to see the former. A brisk walk outside is a great way for the little ones to shed some of that pre-big day energy, and you can preemptively burn off some of those Christmas cookies; you know, the one's you'll be eating later tonight? (Wink.) Admission is free, as ever, and the zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.
