7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18. Creepy Crawl (3524 Washington Boulevard).

Forking over dough for a band's reunion show is much like plunking a paycheck down on a roulette table: You never know if you're going to end up hating yourself for doing it until you actually do it. In their 1981 prime, the Adolescents were the forerunners of Orange County punk rock, a band that lived, breathed and rioted into personal and musical maturity alongside the likes of Social Distortion and Agent Orange. Containing guitar-propelled gems such as "Amoeba" and "I Hate Children," the Adolescents' self-titled debut has the abrasiveness of Ajax on an open wound and is, inarguably, their best. But that was 25 years ago; why bother seeing them now? Well, among other things, band members released O.C. Confidential in 2005, showing that while they've slowed down, they've also grown up — in a good way.
