Alison Krauss & Union Station

8 p.m. Thursday, September 22. Fox Theatre, 527 North Grand Boulevard.

O Brother, Where Art Thou? gets the credit for the mainstreaming of bluegrass, but it's Alison Krauss who truly transformed the marketplace. She had a little something to do with that soundtrack, and for decades before that the pride of Champaign, Illinois, was injecting contemporary folk and classic rock into the most tradition-conscious of genres. Her chops on the fiddle are unimpeachable, and her band, Union Station, features cold-blooded killers who'll first make you forget how versatile her airy vocals are and then how hot she is. No other bluegrass band could fill the seats of the Fabulous Fox, and no other singer evokes a bluegrass dreamland quite like Kraus.

What to expect: Kraus will be focusing on the new album Paper Airplane, but the gospel numbers and "Oh, Atlanta," her classic Bad Company cover, will surely steal the show.
