All Together Ooky

Unlike Herman Munster, The Addams Family did not spring to life with the flash of a lightning bolt -- they evolved over time from the primordial soup of cartoonist Charles Addams' imagination. Addams' single-panel comics about the comically macabre family eventually became an appropriately twisted domestic sitcom in the '60s, and then a pair of big-budget movies in the '90s. Was there ever any doubt that the subversive clan would make it to Broadway? The Addams Family continues the tradition of skewering convention, but in musical format. Sullen daughter Wednesday has found the perfect man, and in an act of total rebelliousness, he's absolutely normal. She wants his family to meet her family, and so a dinner is arranged at the family home -- can Gomez and Morticia rein in their outlandish behavior for their daughter's sake? Will Lurch play a little harpsichord during dinner? Will Thing keep his hand to himself? This Ouija board seems to indicate "yes," but don't count on it. The Addams Family takes to the stage at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, at the Fox Theatre (537 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com). The show continues every day except Monday through Sunday, October 9, and tickets are $15 to $82.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 27. Continues through Oct. 9, 2011
