(Almost) Silent Night

Ms. Day would like to give you a brief rundown of what she — and her tummy — have been up to the past few weeks. It all started with myriad birthday celebrations at beloved restaurants around the area, and then there were those three Thanksgiving dinners. And, oh yes, some holiday parties with lots of cookies and cheese and other eats, and four Christmas suppers. Of course, there have also been fewer sessions with the ol' Ab Roller — who has the time with the shopping and the celebrating and, well, all of the eating? Alas, Day's pants have become a bit tighter as of late, so instead of continuing the gluttony on New Year's Eve — and throwing down a heaping plate of food and knocking back a bunch of drinks, as she normally would — Day has decided to get an early jump on her 2010 fitness goals. To start working off some of those inches, she'll be taking part in the New Year's Eve Night Hike at the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area (801 Strodtman Road). The 1.5-mile walk under a full moon will be a perfect way to ease her into more-strenuous strength-building sessions come January, plus she'll get to enjoy a brisk, beautiful evening filled only with the sounds of nature and the group's footsteps. The stroll begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free; make your reservation by calling 314-877-6014, and learn more at www.trailnet.org.
