Alone Time

January is a rather desolate month, and not just because of our grim, grey weather. After the hurly-burly and hobnobbery of the holidays, it feels like everybody wants a little time to themselves. Solitude, the new exhibit at the University City Public Library (6701 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-3150 or www.ucpl.lib.mo.us), offers some of that blissful calm in the form of watercolors and photographs of landscapes all on their lonesome. Ella Brown, Dan Esarey, Jennifer Meahan and Valerie Snyder explore the bracing beauty of an unpeopled vista; the normal silence of the library will only enhance your appreciation of the art. Solitude opens with a free public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 6; the work remains on display through Wednesday, January 30, and the library is open every day.
