Some dance companies have a specialty, or at least a signature style of dance. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is its own unique style of dance. Famous for both the power moves and the delicate grace of its dancers, the troupe earns its reputation as a singularly American institution with every performance. Dance St. Louis brings the company back to town for two performances, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (April 25 and 26) at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com). The program includes Ailey classics The River (set to the music of Duke Ellington) and the iconic Revelations, as well as the brand-new Lift, choreographed by Aszure Barton specifically for a cast of nineteen Ailey dancers. Among the cast is St. Louis native Antonio Douthit-Boyd, who is scheduled to dance both nights. Tickets are $35 to $70.
Fri., April 25, 8 p.m.; Sat., April 26, 8 p.m., 2014
