An Abstract on Abstraction 

Art dealer Jim Schmidt has 40 years of experience to aid him when he assesses an artist’s work. The Philip Slein Gallery has tapped Schmidt’s knowledge as a curator for its new exhibition, Jim Schmidt Presents: Abstraction. The show features contemporary abstract art by local and national artists, offering a survey of what’s current and au currant, and includes work by 30 artists including Jonathan Lasker, Erik Spehn, Ann Pibal and Cheonae Kim. Jim Schmidt Presents: Abstraction opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Philip Slein Gallery (1319 Washington Avenue; 314-621-4634 or www.philipsleingallery.com). The work remains up through Saturday, July 30, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
