Kids' artistic urges are strong. Given the chance, they'll apply colored markers to absolutely anything: walls, vintage books, a particularly low-key dog. If you want to encourage your mini-Monet's creative streak (and save yourself a lot of exasperated shouting), take him or her to Kids ArtStart at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves). This program, sponsored by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, pairs kids with all kinds of local arts organizations, from theater companies to visual-arts groups. The result? Arts education that also happens to be totally fun. Today's ArtStart event is presented by the civic-minded Art Saint Louis, whose volunteers will help kids create their very own masterworks. This morning of artistic adventure begins at 10 a.m., and involvement in Kids ArtStart is free. Be sure to check out the ArtStart page on the Rep's Web site (www.repstl.org/artstart) for a complete list of 2008 workshops, which take place the first Saturday of each month (through April), and call 314-968-7340 for more information.
