Assemble' at the Theater

In addition to all of Ms. Day's wine drinking, glove wearing and crumpet snacking, she also finds time to study the art of the ballet. Every week finds her in the dance studio, working on her turn-out, rond de jambe-ing, plié-ing and chaînés turning, and because of her efforts, she can write with authority that this ballet business is très difficile! When you're dancing, there's just so much to think about! And the mind-body connection has to be remarkably strong! Indeed, Day struggles in her classes, and she must confess that she's just not sure if she will ever be a prima ballerina. Alas, that may be the case, but she's not bitter. Instead, she's more thrilled than ever to watch those who are beautiful dancers, those performers who can glide effortlessly across the stage and tell a story with their movement. In fact, she's looking forward to checking out New Beginnings, the aptly named inaugural concert of Missouri Ballet Theatre, a brand-new company founded by Adam Sage. The performance promises a variety of dance, from contemporary ballet to tango to more traditional ballet. New Beginnings is staged at the Roberts Orpheum Theater (416 North Ninth Street) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday (October 16 and 17). Tickets cost $15 to $35 and are available through Ticketmaster (314-241-1888 or
