Bad Dudes

8 p.m. Sunday, May 4. Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center, 3301 Lemp Avenue

Between its charmingly straightforward name and highly literal lyrics, Bad Dudes aren't leaving much to the imagination. On "Eat Drugs," technical, video-gamey guitar noodling seems to almost fight their garage rock-esque drums and buzzy bass, while the band brazenly sings, "I wanna do drugs, I wanna do drugs, but I'm afraid of drugs." It's the Pixies and Iron Maiden hopped up on Mountain Dew, playing Sega Genesis on a Friday night. (In other words, what Bad Dudes lack in subtlety they certainly make up for in style.) Plus, its unapologetic nature and heightened sense of irony makes the band a crucial part of the Los Angeles all-ages scene, along with fellow noisemakers HEALTH and the Mae Shi.
