Basement Jaxx

Crazy Itch Radio (XL)

Basement Jaxx collaborators Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe are never happy unless they're cranking out genre-bending dance traxx with the abandon of an unsupervised child at a dessert buffet. On Crazy Itch Radio, the duo's fourth album, Buxton and Ratcliffe jam tribal techno stabs, acid synth squiggles and hiccupping house beats together with klezmer brass, strutting rock guitars and a happy-go-lucky banjo solo. The vocal cast of Crazy Itch Radio packs less star power than 2003's Kish Kash, but the Jaxx still score a bevy of effervescent performances. They ladle the results onto their beats like syrup onto a stack of pancakes. The production aesthetic on Radio is chunkier and funkier than on Kish Kash, sounding more reminiscent of their earlier material, but it still manages to be poppier than anything they've done.
