Beat Happenings

Music news you can use

Beat the system: Anarchists argue that our e-happy lifestyle is toxic, and that we ought to eradicate contaminants from our systems. So check in for some detox at ant(I)bdy, an experimental video, film and music fête offered by the Ground Floor (215 East Main Street, Belleville, Illinois; 618-277-1026; on Friday, September 22, at 9 p.m. Enjoy the distilling effects of William Sides Atari Party, onemilliontinytinyjesuses, Insect Deli, Mouth to Mouth, Gravity Plays Favorites and DJ 486. Although the cover is $3, you can escape expense (and damn the man!) by wearing a mask or costume, or by bringing a flashlight, portable cassette player or old VHS tape to brutally demolish!

Homeward bound: For the past seven weeks, St. Louis singer-songwriter Geoff Koch has traipsed across the nation in support of his recently released album, Live at Lucas School House. Koch, a placid guitarist who infuses his gravelly Owen-esque music with the occasional piano or harmonica riff, is renowned for his stripped-down Midwestern sensibilities, so isn't it appropriate to rejoice his return to the ol' stomping ground? Celebrate Geoff Koch's homecoming at Mississippi Nights (914 North First Street; 314-421-3853; on Friday, September 22, at 8 p.m. Joining him will be local thought-rockers the Hatch, Redding and Miller Howell. Tickets are merely $7. — Kristyn Pomranz
