Beat the Chanukah Rush 

Your friend Veronica has been bugging you about your Chanukah plans for weeks. Why not tell her you've decided to join the celebration a little early at Chanukah: Festival of Lights at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-9400 or The menorah-lighting ceremony commences at noon, with performances from the Epstein Hebrew Academy, the St. Louis Jewish Women's Choir and the Circle of Jewish Music group. At 2 p.m. the Israeli folk group Shir Ami, which has been engaging audiences for more than twenty years, performs traditional Chanukah music. Local folk group HaShemesh follows Shir Ami with its contemporary twist on Israeli folk music at 3 p.m. After the performances, attendees are encouraged to peruse the shuk (market) offerings from B'rith Sholom Kneseth Israel, the Silver Lady and B'nai El Congregation gift shop. Admission to the festivities is free with regular garden admission ($3 to $8).
