Bedtime Stories

Aspiring writer Katurian spends his evenings composing vivid, sickening tales — almost 400 of them — that detail all of the horrible ways in which one can kill children. A spate of recent child murders bears remarkable similarities to his unpublished tales, and now detectives Tupolski and Ariel attempt to get answers from Katurian about this unlikely coincidence by means both clever and cruel. Nominated for the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play, Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman raises questions about reality and illusion and the difference (if there is one) between art and life. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis opens its Off-Ramp season at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square; 314-968-4925 or www.repstl.org) with The Pillowman this evening at 8 p.m.; the play continues through Sunday, October 8 (no performances on Monday). Tickets are $15 to $45.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 20. Continues through Oct. 8
