World's Fair Donuts

When Terry and Peggy Clanton bought the doughnut business at the corner of Vandeventer and Shaw in 1976, they renamed it World's Fair Donuts because of the building's address. (Get it? 1904 Vandeventer?)They've been open almost every day since then, fourteen hours a day, except for Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Perseverance has paid off: The Clantons' doughnuts are among the best anywhere. We particularly like the light and airy glazed doughnuts, and the chocolate ones, which are dense and rich. And so do all the other St. Louisans. Every morning the customers are lined up out the front door. Terry, in the back, keeps the doughnuts coming, and Peggy keeps the line moving. And the people keep coming back.
