Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village

To get a different view of the heritage of this region, venture outside the city and see what Lindenwood University has undertaken. It's created a National Center for the Study of American Culture and Values at the university and has gathered and reconstructed a wilderness community behind the Boone home. Although Boone's 1803 home is dandy, filled with period furniture and stories of the family, the real draw is a collection of historic buildings that Lindenwood has moved to a village out back. By plucking historic homes from around the region, the university has meticulously reconstructed them as Boonesfield Village. It features twelve historic buildings, including a one-room schoolhouse, a chair-maker's shop, a chapel and a wealthy merchant's home. The setting is so rural, and the feel for the era so remote, you'll get the sense of what it must have been like to live in a time without airplanes overhead or the hum of tires on the highway.
