Best Kids' Thrill

Superman Tower of Power

They've snagged the backpack, the action figures, the caped pajamas, even the limited-edition, individually numbered Superman laptop. But what kids really want from a favorite superhero is to acquire his traits. Six Flags St. Louis' new Superman Tower of Power grants edge-treading offspring the opportunity to get their Brandon Routh on by lifting them 23 stories: up over the Screamin' Eagle, over the Tidal Wave, and much higher than the Batman coaster dares soar. Then they drop — at more than 60 miles an hour. There go the stomach, the flip-flops, and the illusion that you'd be able to keep them spinning on that Shazam Scrambler forever. OK, so they're flying downward instead of up, up and away, but the S.T.O.P. thoroughly tests nerves of steel all the same. For thrill-seeking kids under 48 inches tall, a Sylvester the Cat-adorned version offers smaller-scale thrills in the new Bugs Bunny National Park. Admission to Six Flags costs $37 for adults and $30 for children if you buy online; the park is open Friday-Sunday through the month of October, then goes dark till April.
