Best Local Impresario

Jim Dolan

Tough economic times have killed a number of local music venues and concert series over the past couple of years, but no presenter in recent memory has bounced back from adversity faster or more decisively than Jim Dolan. His cabaret series at Savor in the Central West End, owned and operated separately from the restaurant, went kaput last summer when Savor closed, making it necessary for Dolan to cancel bookings and regroup. Undaunted, he returned a few months later with a new nonprofit organization to present cabaret performances at the Sheldon and in the 80-seat space at the new Kranzberg Arts Center, which rather fortuitously happened to be opening its doors just about the time Savor was shuttered. After a successful first season, Dolan's Cabaret St. Louis is now headed into a second year, mixing nationally known cabaret stars with promising newcomers and local talent. With Dolan as its indefatigable impresario, cabaret might be in St. Louis to stay.
