Best Takeout Counter (Grocery Division)

St. Louisans who live in the central corridor have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to delicious grocery takeout. You've got your Whole Foods, your Wild Oats and your Straub's, all within a shopping-cart's reach, so to speak. But not everyone can live in such proximity. Should the less fortunate be forced to suffer through a subpar takeout experience or make their dinners from scratch? No, we say! A thousand times no! Which brings us (again and again) to Dierbergs, each of whose 22 stores (including one in the aforementioned corridor) is vastly and economically stocked. Try the Mexican lasagna, a layered meal of taco-seasoned ground beef, flour tortillas, cheeses, black beans, tomatoes and more. Or pair coconut-encrusted chicken breasts with a three-cheese potato gratin and voil! An almost-like home-cooked meal for two, for less than a trip through the drive-through. Portobello mushroom ravioli with meat sauce is a crown jewel of takeout. Your nearest Dierbergs might even have a barbecue joint up front—so much the better.
