Society of St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store

All too often, thrift-store bargain hunting is like pearl-diving through tar. But not at the Society of St. Vincent De Paul's second-hand emporia, where the practice more closely resembles a leisurely stroll through the Garden of Great Buys. Best of all is the society's Central West End thrift store branch, far cleaner and more well-ordered than your average fleabitten bargain bin. No need to move multiple urine-stained mattresses to unearth your hidden treasure. The mattresses (unstained) are in one section, the treasures in another. Another distinguishing feature here is the sheer size: miles of aisles laden with objects you were both looking for and weren't expecting to find. It is an impressive sight indeed to walk in and see this kind of acreage spread out before you. High ceilings and ample elbow room banish the claustrophobic, bronchitis-inducing atmosphere of all too many of St. Vincent's kin. There's a great glassware section and an embarrassment of clothing for all aesthetics. (Hipster girls and drag queens make out the best.) Record collectors too would do well to check in regularly.
