While many television reporters spent long hours and broke important stories in Ferguson, it was weekend anchor Shirley Washington who helmed the news desk late into the night as unrest following the shooting death of Michael Brown turned to looting and violence the next evening. On many nights KTVI stuck with ongoing live coverage of Ferguson long after other stations had returned to their regularly scheduled programming, and Washington anchored as some of the most important and upsetting footage was beamed back to the studio, into the wee hours of the morning. Later she would also speak exclusively to what may be one of the key witnesses in the case — a construction worker who says he saw Brown with his hands up just before officer Darren Wilson shot him to death. More generally, she's got a great presentation style, she's an Emmy Award winner, and on a lighter note, just try to watch the YouTube clip of her getting caught yawning without cracking a smile.
