Bill Mallonee falls into that rare brand of songwriter who can break through pretense and speak simply and honestly about the darker corners of the soul. Best known for fronting the Athens, Georgia, Americana outfit the Vigilantes of Love, Mallonee embarked on a solo career in 2001 and has continued adding to a catalog that now includes some 25 albums' worth of material. Whether they're confronting the challenges of life on the road in a van without a safety net or lamenting innocence lost, Mallonee's songs always seem to strike a familiar chord without sounding formulaic or derivative.
