Never doubt the power of the '80s. They were Day-Glo, they were synthetic, and they reeked of AquaNet and money, but the '80s remain the fertile crescent for modern entertainment. The Wedding Singer, the stage adaptation of the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie, trades heavily in the pop-culture in-jokes that keep VH1 afloat while retaining the goofy romantic plot of the source material. Robbie's still the best wedding singer Richfield's ever seen, Julia's gonna marry the horrid Gordon Gecko-lite Glenn Guglia, and that poor Boy George manqué is still the lynchpin of Robbie's band. And then, Linda rips out Robbie's heart, and everything falls apart — romantic-comedy apart, but still. Can Julia shake Robbie out of his Robert Smith phase permanently? Find out when The Wedding Singer takes the stage Tuesday through Sunday (March 11 through 23) at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or Tickets are $22 to $60.
