Feather, Leather, Lipstick is not just the final step of your going-out-for-the-evening checklist; its also the title of the new three-artist exhibition at phd gallery (2300 Cherokee Street; 314-664-6644 or
www.phdstl.com). Jeff Kapfer provides the
Feather with his acrylic paintings of colorful avians such as the peacock and cockatoo.
Leather is served by Jerry Millers hand-crafted masks, which are suitable for a classic Commedia dellarte performance or a Mardi Gras blowout. Mark Florida gives us the
Lipstick with his black-and-white photographs documenting the backstage transformations that happen before every drag show.
Feather, Leather, Lipstick opens with a free public reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, January 22, with special guest Elise LaBarge performing the music of Edith Piaf. The show remains up through Saturday, March 5, and the gallery is open Thursday through Sunday.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 22. Continues through March 5, 2011
