Black Celebration

He's angry, but it's a loving anger

Exasperated by stupidity and the crass hypocrisy of the world around him, Lewis Black is a modern-day Diogenes, roaming the country in search of honesty and maybe a little intelligence. Is it so much to ask? Apparently, yes, or he wouldn't be releasing his sixth album (Anticipation) of comedic vitriol or going out on the road again to voice his displeasure with elected officials, weathermen and the whole lot of us. Actually, Black probably likes us; the shouting and the apoplexy, that's more bewilderment at humanity's collective failure to think things through than it is naked hostility. He's got a heart of gold under all that volume — he shouts to drown it out, but his compassion is evident if you listen carefully. Black brings his "Let Them Eat Cake" tour to the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com) at 8 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $44.50 to $74.50.
