Brando for the Information Age

History is made every day. With the rapid increase in carriers of data -- and the ease of duplication and transmission -- access to information is at an all-time high, but our ability to process it is still limited. For today's aspiring film enthusiast, it is increasingly difficult to keep up with the latest films, much less maintain an authoritative knowledge of yesteryear's classics. Two-time Oscar winner and cultural icon Marlon Brando passed away more than ten years ago, but Thomas Stockman's Super-8 Movie Madness series at the Way Out Club (2525 South Jefferson Avenue; 314-664-7638) ensures that he is not lost in the information glut. Super-8 film reels were the forerunner of today's home video, offering heavily edited fifteen-minute editions of feature films throughout the 1960s and '70s. Tonight Super-8: Marlon Brando Madness presents the perfect primer for the Brando beginner with Super-8 screenings of some of the star's most influential movies, including On the Waterfront, The Young Lions, Desiree, The Godfather and Viva Zapata! Also featured is Brando's iconic portrayal of a rough and tumble motorcycle gang leader in 1953's The Wild One, alongside an appropriately sleazy '50s trailer reel. The show begins at 8 p.m. and admission is $3.
