After taking a year off from the road in 2010, pianist, singer and songwriter Bruce Hornsby is back with a new live recording, a two-CD set called Bride of the Noisemakers and a summer tour to go with it. Both feature Hornsby with the Noisemakers, the band he formed a decade ago with the idea of knitting together the disparate strands of his various musical interests, from jazz and rock to country, bluegrass and folk. Anchored by drummer Sonny Emory, who's played with Earth, Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, the Crusaders, and many other jazz acts, the Noisemakers takes a highly improvisational approach to helping Hornsby create fresh settings for familiar songs such as "The Way It Is," "Mandolin Rain" and "Every Little Kiss."
