The holidays are over, the party dust has settled and man, it's cold out there. If you're feeling the January blues, Schlafly has the cure for what ails ya: Don your tartan and head to Burns' Night, the annual fête of the life and work of Robert Burns, the Ploughman Poet. Tom Schlafly will be reading his very own poem written for the occasion. Not a poetry fan? Maybe music is your thing. Well, Burns is equally known and loved for his catalog of more than 300 songs — "Auld Lang Syne," that special New Year's ditty, included. Still not piqued your interest? The festivities culminate with the ceremonial tapping of Schlafly's Scottish Ale, heralded with style by a procession of pipers and drummers. Then have yourself a wee bit of haggis or neeps and tatties before enjoying some traditional Scottish music courtesy of Duddybreeks in the Club Room. Original verse, music and a beer parade — this is one dead poets society that will have all the lads and lassies crying carpe diem. The celebration takes place on the Scottish Bard's birthday, Monday, January 25, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street; 314-241-2337, Admission is free, and regular menu prices apply.
