Bustin' Makes 'Em Feel Good

Star Wars and Star Trek may be the kings of the heap when it comes to inspiring sci-fi fandom, but don't underestimate the power of Ghostbusters. With one great movie and one pretty good movie to its credit (for the record: Star Wars has four greats, Star Trek has one), and a stylish costume that's easier to source than real Ewok fur, Ghostbusters has a huge contingent of enthusiasts and cosplayers. And most of those folks will gather at Ecto Con 2 from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday (November 22 and 23), at the St. Louis Hilton at the Airport (10330 Natural Bridge Road; www.ectocon.com). Promising two days of panels and seminars on topics such as building your own Ghostbusters proton pack, at-home slime manufacturing, and how to customize your car, as well as costume contests and karaoke, performances by musician Professor Shyguy and speculation on a potential third movie, Ecto Con is ground zero for 'busting fanatics. Admission is $20 to $25 for day passes or $50 for the whole weekend, including a special field trip on Sunday, November 24.
