Cheers to the Otters

This year, Munich, Germany, celebrates its 174th Oktoberfest, but here in St. Louis a newer tradition has taken hold: The Saint Louis Zoo in Forest Park kicks off another Ottertoberfest, a three-weekend-long event that unites the song and dance of the traditional German biergarten with the web-footed wonder of the North American river otter. The event stomps into motion with the opening-day parade on Saturday, September 22, which is followed by live music; high-spirited prancers are encouraged to invent their own otter variation of the “Duck Dance.” The music continues throughout the fest. Plus, there will be plenty of brats and beer for consumption, and kids will enjoy the Otter Slide & Swim and the other games and crafts. Admission to Ottertoberfest is free, and the fun happens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday until October 7. Call 314-781-0900 or visit www.stlzoo.org for more information.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Sept. 22. Continues through Oct. 7, 2007
