Chris Brown

7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. Scottrade Center, 1401 Clark Avenue.

Chris Brown's story is the sort that keeps aspiring stars dreaming and scheming. A chance meeting with a local music producer — who had stopped at the gas station where his father worked — jump-started one of the most successful careers in R&B today. Brown was just eleven when his father pitched his vocal qualities at the filling station; he's now an eighteen-year-old heartthrob with a pair of top-five albums to his credit and an apparent desire to stick around. Amid the usual club candy on Exclusive, the Virginia native's sophomore set, are a few ballads that showcase a surprisingly mature singer.
