The Disney princesses and their stories hold a certain magic for children, it's true, but after seeing these tales play out a million times, even the little ones wouldn't mind a bit of a change of pace. Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale offers just the variation you and yours need. This prize-winning book-turned-play presents the betrothal quest of Mufaro's daughters, who embark on a journey to meet the king. The powerful man is searching for a most perfect bride, and just like Cinderella, only the daughter who is beautiful outside and inside will enjoy the good life. Dallas Children's Theater presents the tale, recommended for those six-years-old and older, at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or www.cocastl.org) at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday (November 18 through 20). Tickets cost $8 to $18.
