City on Film

Friday, February 17, 5:30 p.m. at the Creepy Crawl (412 North Tucker Boulevard)

Although they broke up in 1999, influential math-rockers Braid embarked upon a well-received reunion tour two years ago — a reunification followed shortly by the demise of Hey Mercedes, the band of power-pop noiseniks that formed in the wake of Braid's original split. Got that? But these dissolutions have simply allowed Braid/Hey Mercedes vocalist Bob Nanna to make his on-and-off solo project, City on Film, his primary musical endeavor. CoF's loudest moments naturally resemble the bull-charges of Hey Mercedes, but the strident strumming and Nanna's upper-register vocal swoons on a song such as "Pony's Last Trick" conjure Bob Mould's solo endeavors. Be sure to check out www.post436records.com/cityonfilm/ for a stash of home-recorded covers of tunes by Morrissey, Jeff Buckley and others.
