Clothes that Say Something 

Here's a snippet on Nick Cave, but not that Nick Cave: The Nick Cave under discussion here is a conceptual artist instead of a rock star, and he hails from much closer to home than Down Under -- Fulton, to be exact. But like his more famous Aussie counterpart, this Mr. Cave also works with sound. Nick the Missourian is probably best known for the wearable sculptures he calls "soundsuits." Fashioned from various fibers, twigs and a gonzo grab bag of found objects Cave harvests from flea markets and thrift stores, these rattling, rustling articles of odd couture are audible when worn; there's no way you're silently sashaying down Wash. Ave. in one of these leisure suits. Cave's unique aesthetic -- which includes video work -- is well represented in Currents 109: Nick Cave, the new exhibition in galleries 102, 249, 250 and 301 at the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park (314-721-0072 or The free show remains up through Sunday, March 8, 2015, and the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday.
