Some hear the word “craft” and think of Popsicle sticks and that kid who ate toxic glue in the corner of the kindergarten classroom. But the artists showcased in Without Boundaries: Transformations in American Craft offer a strong argument against that oversimplification. Without Boundaries explores the portfolios of several artists who've worked with crafts for 25 years. Curator Lynn Friedman Hamilton designed the exhibit to showcase materials used in contemporary art while analyzing the evolution and adaptations of the artists’ work over the years, incorporating digital photographs and video into their pieces in congruency with the current technological curve. Without Boundaries opens with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Craft Alliance (6640 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-1177 or www.craftalliance.org).
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 24. Continues through Oct. 21, 2012
