By the spring of 1972 the Grateful Dead were trucking on a monumental winning streak. Within just the past three years they'd released four consecutive stunners: Live/Dead, Workingman's Dead, American Beauty and The Grateful Dead ("Skull & Roses"). Then this most quintessential of American bands flew to Europe for its most potent tour ever. In Bremen, the band taped a legendary set for the German television show Beat Club TV on April 21. Renowned among Deadheads, this holy-grail performance has never before been officially released or seen in its entirety -- until tonight. Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies: Beat Club 4/21/72 screens simultaneously in key theaters nationwide at 7:30 p.m. Locally, the film is at four venues: the AMC Showplace Edwardsville 12 (6633 Center Grove Road, Edwardsville, Illinois); AMC Chesterfield 14; Regal Gravois Bluffs Stadium 12; and Regal St. Louis Mills 18.
