Death of A Lyon

Per E.M. Forster's famous dictum, we should strive to "only connect." A perfectly sound ideal but of course it's easier to achieve for some than others. One particular family in crisis personifies the latter camp – boy do they ever personify it. Nicky Silver's play The Lyons relates the story of the titular family whose patriarch, Ben Lyons, is a terminal patient in a hospital. There he's visited by his wife Rita, with whom he's been sunk in a loveless marriage for years, and his two grown children, Curtis and Lisa. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing for any human being to do but especially so for this group of flawed, scared mortals, who can't seem to connect with each other no matter what they do. Share these human foibles in Max & Louie Productions' staging of The Lyons at Center of Creative Arts' Black Box Theater (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or The Lyons is performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (August 22 through September 1).
