Digital Evolution

It's a crazy-fast world and only getting faster -- especially visually. But there's an unlocked door in the madhouse: ditch your TV/laptop/smartphone, get outside into whatever patch of nature you have nearby. Or absorb the slow-breathing, still images of art and photography. You can go the latter route from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 25, at the opening reception for ORIGINS: Natural Selections, a new exhibit showcasing the photographs, mixed media and video installations of Larry Emerson and Byron Sletten. Though they use the tools of cutting-edge technology, these artists aim to refocus the viewer's sense of awe before the profundity of nature and the universe; they leave the soulless sensory bludgeoning to the TV and film hacks. ORIGINS: Natural Selections remains up through Saturday, December 21, at the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard; 314-863-5811 or www.art-stl.com). The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, and admission is free.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 25. Continues through Dec. 21, 2013
