Dire Diary

Akzentii Poprishchin has a steady job and a place to live, and both of those accomplishments are driving him crazy. Poprishchin is a hard-working civil servant in Imperial Russia, slaving away his days doing nothing much of all. Is it the tedium and drudgery that's getting to him, or is it something inside him? Poprishchin's haughty sense of self-worth and his drive to rise above his station lead him to embarrassment and humiliation as he slips further into paranoia and delusions of grandeur.
