Dogs in Heats

Today, St. Louis’ finest pull their pooches out of their dog houses and take them to the Boathouse in Forest Park (314-367-2224) for the annual Paddle with Your Pooch dog-and-master boat race. The first of three heats (thirty boats maximum per heat) departs at 1 p.m., and each racing boat will be manned by as many as three people and an accompanying pooch. Human and hound alike are invited to join lakeside announcer Charlie Brennan in hooting and howling the racers on to victory, and rest assured that plenty of eats and drinks are available for both two- and four-legged fans. The entry fee is $30 per team (register at www.boathouseforestpark.com), but spectating is free. Proceeds from the Paddle benefit Forest Park Forever.
