Don Caballero

8 p.m. Wednesday, September 3. The Bluebird, 2706 Olive Street

Punkgasm, the seventh studio album released by Pittsburgh math-rock godfathers Don Caballero is affirmation that lone founding member (drummer Damon Che) made the right decision in reforming the band with new members in 2003. Since then, Don Cab has released two solid albums and toured extensively, bringing its style of brain-bending post-rock fury to a whole new generation of tender young ears. The band's music still acts as an important rite of passage and a wake-up call to anyone who has never experienced what music can be when the pop songwriting rulebook is thrown out the window in favor of a more exploratory ethos based on intuition and raw emotion — albeit well-rehearsed intuition and raw emotion.
