Dred Scott 160th Anniversary Festival of Freedom

On March 6, 1857, the Supreme Court denied Dred Scott his freedom on the basis that he wasn’t considered a person according to the U.S. Constitution. The Festival commemorates Scott’s sacrifice and commitment to justice. Lynne Jackson and four other descendants from families who were instrumental in the Dred Scott Decision and the Scotts’ subsequent freedom will be present. The Black Rep will perform a play written by one of the descendants. The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform a suite written for the Dred Scott family. live art, music, coloring pages for kids, and more.
