The Loop labors for you

We toil away all year, and we get one measly workday off for our troubles. It doesn't seem fair, really. At least over the Labor Day holiday, there is plenty for us to do to keep us from getting bored with all of our free time. In addition to the other fabulous festivals planned for this weekend, the East Loop Block Party promises to be entertaining. The celebration runs from Thursday through Sunday (August 28 through 31), and it throws some love at, you guessed it, the east end of the Loop (along Delmar Boulevard, from North Skinker Boulevard to Des Peres Avenue). The fest showcases local music with more than 25 bands and DJs scheduled to play on Saturday and Sunday, including Nite Owl (pictured), Bunnygrunt and the Midwest Avengers. Plus, the merchants that line this strip offer up deals on goods and eats: We can purchase a rockin' ensemble at Fifi's for 10 percent off, slurp up complimentary hot-and-sour soup at the Chinese Noodle Café, sit for a free knitting lesson, thanks to Knitty Couture, and more! The bands play from 11 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Sunday. Learn more by visiting www.thepageant.com/suite100.
