Journalist Harper Barnes will discuss his novel "Never Been A Time: The 1917 Race Riot That Sparked The Civil Rights Movement." The novel is a reflection on the events that took place in East St. Louis, Illinois, surrounding what has been called the deadliest race riot in American History. The migration of blacks from that city following the riots was key in establishing several black communities in the St. Louis area. The presentation will include a Q&A session. Following the event, there will be a tribute to Black Women Blues and Sacred Songstresses entitled "The Long Road."
