It may only be mid-September, but it's never too early to begin rounding into Oktoberfest shape. Tonight the Stable hosts an Oktoberfest German Beer Dinner, which offers four courses of traditional German fare paired with appropriate brews. The evening begins with a beer reception that features your choice of Amalgamated Brewing Company’s beers plus sausage, wurst and German cheeses -- sausage should star as an appetizer far more often as far as we’re concerned. Also on the menu are sauerkraut soup, Rinderrouladen (a beef roll-up with mustard, bacon and a pickle -- it’s divine) and Black Forest cake. Oh, and don’t forget the beers -- in addition to a Helles and Oktoberfest, the third course (chicken goulash) is served with a Zoigl, the hard-to-find Franconian variety of Kellerbier. Your evening begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Stable (1821 Cherokee Street; 314-771-8500 or Reservations are required (make 'em before Thursday, September 15), and the cost is $45 per person (includes tax and gratuity).
