Every Book Tells A Story

A good book is inspirational, as a work of art should be. Chicago artist Anne Lindberg found much inspiration not in a particular book, but in the idea of books. Archive, her new show at the University City Public Library (6701 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-3150 or www.ucpl.lib.mo.us), is a series of paintings and drawings of books. Of course there's the usual fun in scanning the titles visible in each piece in an attempt to learn something about the artist, but Archive, as the title implies, is more about the collective value of books as a concept. They are stories, histories, storehouses of knowledge and a static and ever-changing communication between two human beings. Archive is open daily through Friday, January 31, and admission is free.
