Fancy Birds

Long walk

Ms. Day's adoration for penguins can only be eclipsed by her puppy love. But as awesome as dogs are, they really are more come-as-you-are animals. Penguins, however, have panache. To see just how much, head to the Creve Coeur Community Center (300 North New Ballas Road) at 7 p.m. for a free screening of March of the Penguins, hosted by the St. Louis Audubon Society. In this documentary about the emperor penguins of Antarctica, you'll get to see lots of these sharp-dressed birds and witness what they have to go through just for the continuation of their species. Afterward, you'll have a chance to ask questions of Rick Smith, a zookeeper at the Saint Louis Zoo's Penguin & Puffin Coast. To learn more, call the Audubon Society at 314-599-7390 or visit www.stlouisaudubon.org. And note: Take a cue from the dogs and don't dress up for this event; leave the tuxes for the birds.
